The prevalence of undernourishment (PoU) estimates the proportion of the population that lacks sufficient dietary energy for a healthy, active life. Central and Eastern Africa had the highest levels of undernourishment with over 28% of the population affected. Africa as a whole experienced a 19.7% undernourishment rate. Western Africa saw a 14.6% rate, while Southern Africa had 11.1%. Northern Africa had the lowest prevalence at 7.5%.
