A recent survey of US adults revealed a range of opinions regarding the nation's K-12 STEM education system compared to other countries. Approximately one-third (33%) of respondents rated the system as average, while 28.5% rated it as the best or above average. Conversely, 32% rated it below average or the worst, and a relatively high percentage (6.5%) were unsure of their opinion, highlighting a potential knowledge gap. This lack of consensus aligns with the US's middling performance in international rankings, where it ranked 13th in Mathematics and 31st in Science. The data suggests a difference in perception, with Asians ranking K-12 STEM education more positively than Blacks and Hispanics, while individuals with higher education tend to view the system more favorably. The US faces a projected shortage of STEM professionals, with over 1 million jobs expected to go unfilled by 2025.
