The three largest exporters of Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) exported a combined 330B cubic meters of LNG in 2022, with Qatar leading the way. Australia and the US followed closely behind. Monthly export data shows that the US is set to become the largest exporter of LNG in 2023, with Qatar experiencing a decline in exported volumes. Whether the US continues as the leading exporter remains uncertain, with President Joe Biden recently announcing his administration would pause the approval of new LNG exports due to growing pressure from climate activists. Despite the reputation of LNG being a 'cleaner' fossil fuel, the production and transportation of LNG emit greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, hindering progress towards climate change objectives.
