Notes

In 2020, Luxembourg spent the most, at around $34,700 per student. The United States was second at $19,973. Mexico and Turkey, spent significantly less, at around $5,200 per student. Countries prioritize spending differently and this may be due to a lower share of domestic universities, many choosing to study abroad, and higher teacher salaries. Mexico and Turkey spend six times less than Luxembourg which offers some of the highest teacher salaries in the OECD. Enhanced investment in education often translates to improved facilities and heightened student support. Nevertheless, educational quality also hinges on teacher training, curriculum design, and student engagement. Consequently, differing levels of emphasis on these factors across countries could influence the overall quality of education.
