When comparing across regions, government spending on education in Singapore fluctuated from 2010 to 2021, declining from 18.6% in 2010 to 11.9% in 2020. Despite this decline, Singapore continues to invest significantly in education, particularly in preschool education and the SkillsFuture initiative. Conversely, China experienced a nearly 5% decrease in education expenditure from 2010 to 2020. In India, this trend was reversed, with government expenditure on education increasing by 4.7%. The primary allocation of funds was towards elementary education, followed by investments in university and higher education. Nigeria and Japan maintained relatively stable levels of government spending on education throughout the decade, with fluctuations of less than 1% from 2010 to 2020 in both countries.
