Global rumination emissions by livestock, 2017 (Gigatons of CO₂ equivalent)
FAO
17 Jun 2024
Livestock supply chains account for 14.5% of global anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions. Cattle are the primary contributors, emitting around 4.5 Gt of CO₂, which accounts for nearly two-thirds of all ruminant emissions. This makes cattle the largest single emitter among land livestock, producing more emissions than all other land livestock combined.
