By 2050, there will be 2 billion more learners requiring education. The predominant surge will be in upper secondary and post-secondary education. Technological advancements, evolving employer expectations, and the demand for specialized skills are making lifelong upskilling an essential component of career progression. Continued upskilling will be critical to keep up with changing technology requirements, the decline of some, and the emergence of new industries. Shown is the medium (SSP2) projection by the Wittgenstein Centre for Demography and Global Human Capital. The authors of this projection describe it as their "middle of the road scenario that can also be seen as the most likely path".
