India has always comparatively spent less on healthcare. There has been a notable contraction in healthcare expenditure over the past decade, with spending consistently below 3% of GDP since 2017. The latest data from 2020 reveals a healthcare spending of 2.96% of GDP, reflecting a substantial reduction from the levels observed in the early 2000s. Cuts on a vital sector like healthcare, result in a greater effect on the low-income populace who don’t have proper access to healthcare.
