Secondary enrollment rates in the least developed countries significantly trail those in the most developed regions, based on 2020 data. For instance, upper secondary enrollment is only 44% in the least developed areas compared to nearly 100% in developed regions. Additionally, more developed countries show smaller disparities between upper and lower secondary education levels, as more investments in education in these countries have led to higher completion rates and reduced gaps across different education levels.
